Paternity Policies


Anna University follows the Maternity and Paternity policies of the Government to support women's continued participation in education and employment.

As Per F.R. & S.R. – PART III - Leave Rules of CENTRAL CIVIL SERVICES (LEAVE) RULES, 1972 Paternity Leave policy has following rules. The Same Policy is adopted for Anna University Employees who are regular in the University Departments and Regional Campuses of Anna University.

  •  A male member of the Service (including a probationer) with less than two surviving children, may be granted paternity leave by an authority competent to grant leave for a period of 15 days.
  • The paternity leave can be taken up to 15 days before, or up to six months from the date of delivery of the child.
  • During the period of 15 days, he shall be paid leave salary equal to the pay drawn immediately before proceeding on leave.
  • The paternity leave shall not be debited against the employee's leave account. 
  • The paternity leave can be combined with any other kind of leave. 
  • If the paternity leave is not availed within the specified period, it is treated as lapsed.
  • The paternity leave shall not normally be refused under any circumstances.
