Marine Pollution

Anna University have a policy on preventing and reducing marine pollution through educational courses on syllabus and the activities on coastal cleanup, questionnaire survey on best practices to reduce marine litter along with the individual lifestyle to help the environment . From the activities done by the university, the local community got the awareness about the land based pollutant activities which ultimately affects the environment.

  1. World Cleanup Day 2022 (17.09.2022)

On the occasion of “World Cleanup Day 17th September, 2022” IOM EIACP PC RP has participated the Coastal Cleanup Event organized by NIOT, Chennai at Elliot’s Beach, Besant Nagar, Chennai on 17.09.2022. Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Dr.L.Murugan inaugurated the program. Director and EIACP Coordinator Dr.M.Krishnaveni and IOM Staff participated the event.


  1. People survey about plastic pollution at Elliot’s Beach (05.12.2022)

IOM EIACP PC RP team conducted a people survey about plastic pollution at Elliot’s Beach, Besant Nagar, Chennai to the public on 05th December, 2022 to create awareness about plastic pollution in the marine environment. IOM Intern and M.Tech Students participated the survey.


  1. People Survey at Mahabalipuram 2023 – LIFE event (25.03.2023)

IOM EIACP PC RP has conducted a Mass Awareness Program “People Survey about Marine Litter” at Mahabalipuram on 25.03.2023 to the school students and public. The Questionnaire was based on the LiFE concepts “Reduce Waste and Single Use Plastics”. IOM Staff, Research Scholars and M.Tech. Ocean Technology students has carried out the questionnaire survey about “How to reduce waste and single use plastics”.


  1. Questionnaire Survey on Mangroves at Pichavaram (27.05.2023)

IOM EIACP PC RP Chennai, conducted a Questionnaire survey regarding the “Individual Lifestyle to Reduce Marine Litters” and “A survey of Mangrove Ecosystem” to create awareness among the public. With the coordination of M.Tech Ocean Technology students, Research Scholar and Staff members the Questionnaire survey is done with the public at Pichavaram, Cuddalore. Brochures regarding the importance of the mangrove ecosystem are distributed to the public.
