SDG 14: Life below water
Health of Aquatic Ecosystem
A pond is constructed in the outlet of the campus (within the campus) which is used to collect the entire surface water runoff generated from the entire campus in the year of 2021 to 2022.
The natural biodiversity with native trees and grasses are preserved in the pond. The health of the pond is monitored through automated sensor based health monitoring system.
Centre for Water Resources, Anna University is associated with the Fisheries Department and the Fisheries University in order to increase the inland fish production in short/long seasonal irrigation tanks and farm ponds. The targeted area for monitoring the health of aquatic ecosystems is developed to provide improved fish production.

Monitoring and Evaluation of Tamil Nadu irrigated Agriculture Modernization (TNIAM) Project:
Anna University is associated with the Fisheries Department and the Fisheries University in order to increase the inland fish production in short/long seasonal irrigation tanks and farm ponds. The stocking of genetically modified GIF Tilapia and indigenous species of fingerlings were introduced to increase the fish production. The targeted area for monitoring the health of aquatic ecosystems and improved fish production is 25,100 hectares.
‘Area under improved fish production’ is one of the key indicators examined by Anna University as shown in farm land of Cauvery Delta Sub basin.
