Aquatic Ecosystems Through Education
Anna University offers educational programmes on freshwater ecosystems through curriculum and syllabus for Surface and Ground Water Management Practices through advanced technologies along with practical knowledge. The Centre for Water Resources (CWR) offers PG courses in M.E. Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering and Irrigation Water Management. The Centre for Environmental Studies (CES) offers PG courses in M.E. Environmental Engineering and Environmental Management. The Institute of Remote Sensing (IRS) offers UG course in B.E. Geoinformatics and PG course in M.E. Remote Sensing and Geomatics. Institute for Ocean Management (IOM) celebrates important environmental days covering SDG 14 (Life below Water). In this regard, IOM has conducted several educational programmes on freshwater ecosystems for various schools and organisations. To give awareness to local communities, IOM has conducted field surveys related to water quality. Apart from these, IOM creates and uploads knowledge products under the “Kids Corner” and “Poster” sections and also prepares thematic maps and information based on SDG 14 covering water conservation practices, which are uploaded to the official website of IOM EIACP.

Outreach activities
IOM EIACP PC RP Coordinator Dr. M. Krishnaveni and EIACP team has promoted the Mission LiFE (Life Style for Environment) themes in Anna University Campus premises through reputed Registrar i/c Dr. G. Ravikumar. On the occasion of “International Environmental Education Day 2023”, IOM staff explained the LiFE concepts to the school students of Nehru High School, Chennai on 27.01.2023 and distributed the posters about Mission LiFE.


To celebrate the “World Wetlands Day” on 02.02.2023, IOM EIACP PC RP has organised a Drawing Competition based on the theme of “Save Wetlands” for the school students of Chennai High School, Cooks Road. EIACP Staff members has also explained the Mision LiFE themes to the school students. Around 97 students participated in this event. Prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners and participants.


Mission LiFE Calendar 2023 on the theme “Save Water” was released in the “World Water Day 2023 Workshop” by Dr.M.Krishnaveni, Director - Institute for Ocean Management, Anna University, Chennai & EIACP Coordinator, which was received by Dr. S.Balachandran, Director - IMD, Regional Metrological Centre, Chennai and Shri.M.Sivakumar, Regional Director, Central Ground Water Board, Chennai. The workshop was held at Central Ground Water Board, South East Coastal Region, Chennai on 22.03.2023.


IOM EIACP PC RP Chennai, celebrates “World Environment Day” on 05.06.2023 at RKM Sarada Vidyalaya Model Girls HSS, Chennai. EIACP Coordinator Dr. M. Krishnaveni delivered a speech on "Ocean and Environmental Pollution by Anthropogenic Activities". The plant saplings were distributed to the students as well as planted on school premises.
